One tragedy of the standard American diet, is that most Americans are deficient in so many vital nutrients, especially Omega-3's. Most of the devitalized foods in our culture are rich in Omega 6's and low in Omega 3's. Fermented cod liver oil is considered to be one of the richest stores of Omega-3's , as well as of Vitamins A and D. It is critical that pregnant or nursing moms have diets rich in these vitamins and Omega-3's, to ensure the proper growth and development of baby. I was delighted to be able to review Blue Ice Fermented Cod Liver Oil, during my current pregnancy. Green Pasture sent me a bottle of their Blue Ice Fermented Cod Liver Oil in the cinnamon tingle flavor. I had been taking an inexpensive, non-fermented cod liver oil supplement, for a couple of years now, but was really excited to try the "cream of the crop" in health supplements. Many cod liver oil supplements are highly refined, and are often depleted of many of their nutrients. Fermented cod liver oil is still in it's raw state, where no enzymes or nutrients have been destroyed. The Weston Price foundation recommends Green Pasture Cod Liver Oils as the best cod liver oil supplement.
A few of my favorite health benefits for children taking a quality cod liver oil supplement include being an immunity booster and helping in increasing attention spans. (both of which are great advantages for adults, as well.)
Green Pasture Fermented Cod Liver Oil- Cinnamon Tingle Flavor
Most of the liquid forms of cod liver oil, which I have tried in the past, have left a terrible aftertaste. My father-in-law always encouraged me to take a swig of orange juice, after swallowing the oil, to help with the foul taste. Unfortunately, that technique never seemed to help much. Especially during pregnancy, I often found the smell and taste of cod liver oil nauseating, and was that much more unlikely to take it. I was so excited to not have that problem with the Cinnamon Tingle Fermented Cod Liver Oil. The health benefits are so immense, that I would have done all that I could to try to take it regardless of taste. It makes it so much easier, though, when getting over the taste isn't a struggle. I was excited that my four little ones could review this product with me, and they absolutely loved it! My seven year-old son said that it tastes just like cinnamon applesauce, to him. My four year-old asks me why she isn't allowed to have more than her portion, almost every time I give her some cod liver oil. Even my two year-old happily takes her fermented cod liver oil.
Though the price tag of Green Pasture Fermented Cod Liver Oil, is higher than most cod liver oils, I would say that the quality of the oil makes it worth that price. The benefits are potent, and I have found that I don't have to take as much of the fermented cod liver oil, as I do the lesser quality cod liver oils.
Disclosure: Green Pastures provided me with a bottle of their Fermented Cod Liver Oil for review purposes. The opinions expressed herein are solely my own.

I take the Green Pasture product of fermented cod liver oil and the high vitamin butter oil combo alongside a skate liver oil vitamin, also from Green Pastures. I love their products and took them throughout my pregnancy and now while I am nursing. I plan to continue this regiment even once I wean my son, I think it is well worth the money.
I'll do without a hair cut or makeup or shopping to pay for my vitamins :)
It's great to see your kids enjoying them!
Hi Jaclyn,
I agree, it is definitely worth sacrificing certain extras in order to afford such vital nutrients! I would love to try the cod liver oil/high vitamin butter blend. I have heard great things about it!
How funny that you should post about this. I have been doing research the last two days on fermented CLO and butter oil. Boy is it pricey. We've just been taking Carlson's CLO for the past couple of years but I would love to take the fermented CLO and butter oil. Do you know how many servings there are in a bottle? I'm wondering how quickly we would go through it. Also do you know if you take less of the blend than you would if you were taking the CLO and butter oil separate? Would it be cheaper to take the blend than the oils separate? Great review. Thanks.
Hi Emily,
I have noticed that the recommended serving size for the fermented cod liver oil is rather small. I think that is because it is so potent. My 8 fl. oz bottle of FCLO contains 96 servings, at 1/2 tsp each. So if only I am taking it, it could last me about three months. The price does seem steep, and I suffered sticker shock for a while. But when I think about other things that I could cut back on, like maybe a couple less trips into town a month, etc., I think it is feasible to afford it. That would bring the cost out to more like $15 a month, for myself. Ideally, I would like to be able to get this for my whole family, so that would be pricier. The serving sizes are reasonable, since the quality of the fermented cod liver oil is so good. I have noticed a big boost in my immune system since I started taking FCLO. I have read that as long as you consume a lot of quality butter, it isn't essential to take the high vitamin butter oil.The blend is just $5 more a bottle than the FCLO by itself. I hope that helps, dear friend!
I've been taking the Green Pastures FCLO capsules for about 6 months now. I started taking it when I found out I was pregnant, for the extra vitamin D and omega 3's. My husband has experienced a significant decrease in depression/anxiety when taking them. I've read a lot about how vitamin D is excellent for mild depression, and I can definitely tell a HUGE difference between the days my husband takes his capsules and when he forgets. Highly recommended :)
Hi Jess,
Thanks so much for sharing your experience with FCLO. That is so great! The benefits are so immense and I am definitely sold on the importance of taking quality cod liver oil.How long do the capsules last? Blessings!
Hee hee. I contacted the company and asked if I could do a review of the same product. And they (finally) said yes. I am so excited!!!! : )
Emily~

I'm a new follower. I found you when looking up Chore Packs as we're thinking of trying the Maxwells' version. Looks like we have a lot in common. :)
Thanks for mentioning Cod liver oil. I was faithfully taking it when I was going through many health issues. We are now on the Coconut oil. What natural treasures God has for us out there. If we could just take the time to research and utilize them! Thanks for your nice blog. I'll be checking back in.
