I have often admired the nature sketches of Claire Walker Leslie. Her recent book for encouraging children to enjoy learning about nature is called The Nature Connection. I was so delighted to be sent a review copy, to utilize with my children. I have often wanted to implement more nature study into our homeschool studies, but often needed a bit more inspiration. The Nature Connection is divided into twelve months of learning ideas. Claire Walker Leslie has found a way to integrate many subjects, such as math, science, language arts, and more, into nature studies into this one resource. For example, for the month of October, there are project ideas of planting bulbs for spring, art ideas to make with leaves and seeds, and literature recommendations. One fun suggestion was to play "Pooh sticks" on a bridge. This activity would lead children to read The House at Pooh Corner by A.A.Milne. This book adds zest to any nature study program and gives Moms an opportunity to suggest fun projects rather than simply asking their children to sketch. It is so much fun to pack a backpack with snacks, sketch books, pencils, field guides, The Nature Connection, and to explore one's neighborhood or the park. Though this book is recommended for ages 8-12, I have found it to be very adaptable for toddlers and up. If you finding yourself needing some creative inspiration for nature studies, I highly recommend using The Nature Connection.
What do you use to make nature studies easier to implement?
Storey Publishing provided me with a review copy of The Nature Connection, in exchange for an honest review.

I have a major sweet tooth...always have, always will. Recently, I have been reading several health books which have documented that we need large quantities of raw foods in our diets, to preserve our health. Yesterday for lunch, the children and I had huge salads with homemade dressing and this yummy chocolate pudding. The good news is that this pudding is actually very good for you and is almost completely raw! Try it...you will be surprised!
Healthy Chocolate Pudding (I have to triple this recipe for my crew.)
1 Tablespoon raw honey
1 Tablespoon carob powder (I used cocoa powder- which isn't raw.)
Blend until smooth.
I am so excited that raw foods include so many tasty goodies. I have even found raw food cheesecake recipes that make me want to salivate!
What are your favorite healthy and sweet foods?

The What's in the Bible series is created by Phil Vischer, who is also the creator of VeggieTales. Phil Vischer has a heart for implanting scriptural truths in young hearts. He has a gift for teaching scriptural lessons in an engaging manner.
A preview of Battle for the Promised Land
Battle for the Promised Land provides quality entertainment, and is an excellent catalyst for deeper discussions. I enjoy letting my children watch edifying movies that can better help them to understand biblical truths. This particular dvd hones in on the book of Judges and the book of Ruth. Battle for the Promised Land
answers challenging questions such as, "Why is there so much fighting in the Old Testament?". I appreciated that the concept of sin was addressed, both in regards to those in the Old Testament, as well as in regard to us. I appreciate these weighty issues to be addressed in an understandable way for children.
My eldest daughter, Lily, who is seven years old, really enjoyed the Battle for the Promised Land dvd. Lily shared some of her thoughts about this dvd:
Who was your favorite character in the Battle for the Promised Land dvd?
My favorite character in this dvd was Ruth. She showed her love for God, by serving others. She married Boaz and they had and they had a happy marriage.
Did you find it entertaining?
Yes! I enjoyed this dvd because it was fun and interesting. It helped me to learn more about the Bible.
Would you like to watch the rest of the series?
Yes, I would love to learn more about other people in the Bible, as well.

Raw garlic is anti-bacterial, anti-viral, anti-fungal, and contains healthful antioxidants. Garlic loses most, if not all, of these healing properties, when heated. Eating guacamole is one of the easiest ways to incorporate raw garlic into one's diet.
2 large avocados, peeled
the juice of one lemon
4 cloves (or more!) garlic, crushed and peeled
Blend all ingredients until they are of a smooth consistency. Use as a dip for veggies or tortilla chips. Enjoy!

One essential basis for good health is to have access to pure water. I have city water, so I have many concerns about the quality of water that my family and I have access to. At this point, I filter the water using a Brita filter, which does a decent job at filtering chlorine and other toxins, but only filters out a negligible amount of flouride. The concerns about flouride being added to a water supply are ample. In my quest to find a better water purifier, I have found the Berkey filtration systems to be excellent at purifying a plethora of unwanted toxins in water. They even offer PF2 Arsenic and Fluoride Filters. (These come free with the unit if ordered from More than Alive.) These systems are so powerful that they can filter rain water, springs, streams, and rivers. I also like how they are mobile units, so they can easily be taken wherever you go. I am saving up for one of these units because I firmly believe that a pure water supply is a key element to achieving and maintaining good health.
I would love to hear what you use to filter your water. Do you like it or are you hoping to use something else?

You can watch two enlightening health-oriented movies, online for free!
The Gerson Miracle
This movie explains about how our world is full of toxins and how to counteract these toxins through nutrition. They include testimonies of those who claim to have been healed from life-threatening illnesses, such as cancer, through Gerson therapy.( Note: I do not agree with all of their environmental concerns, but overall, it is too good of a movie to be missed.)
The Future of Food
If you care about your health, this film is a must see. It emphasizes the importance of non-genetically modified foods.

It can be challenging to budget Christmas gifts on a single-income. The following are a couple of ways that I have found to afford Christmas gifts without spending cash.
Blog giveaways can be an excellent way to win items that you may give as gifts. I love finding low-entry giveaways, as there is always a greater probability that I may win. Some of my favorite blogs which list giveaways are Money Saving Mom , Joy Filled Frugality, and Jolly Mom. About once a week, others link up their current giveaways on those websites. I have entered around 30-40 giveaways (on various sites) throughout this year, and I have won about 5 of them. Enter for the prizes that you would love to give as gifts.
Swagbucks is a search engine, which rewards you a certain amount of Swagbucks. The more searches you do, the more referrals you have, etc., the more Swagbucks you can earn. I was skeptical at first when I signed up about a year ago, and then I just stuck with google. About a month ago, I started using Swagbucks as my primary search engine, since I had heard of people accumulating enough points to earn gift cards. Within one month, I have earned nearly $25 worth of Amazon gift cards. This is a great way to Christmas shop for loved ones and especially to get a gift for your Hubby! Imagine getting $25 in gift cards per month, throughout the year! Right now, Amazon is offering free shipping for three months, to those who join Amazon Mom. This really makes the deal sweet!
3. Free Books for Bloggers
Many publishers love to give out review copies of their latest books to bloggers! Review copies are one of the most inexpensive advertising options for any publishing company. I have gotten some great books for my children by reviewing free books. Two great options are BookSneeze and Blogging for Books .
I would love to hear your frugal ideas for affording gifts without spending cash! For more frugal ideas, visit Fishmama.
