Homemade Popcorn
My family and I love eating popcorn as a scrumptious snack, especially on movie nights. Buying the bags of kernals can be a healthier alternative; it gives you the choice of being able to season it however you want to, and it is cheaper than most bags of popcorn. To start, I grease the inside of a small paper bag, with coconut oil. Then, I put some kernels in the bag, and fold the flap of the bag down. I usually microwave the bag for 1 minute; but this is one of those things that you have to "play by ear". Then, I usually drizzle some melted coconut oil on it, and parmesan cheese. My dh loves Ranch dressing on his. You could even make a sweet popcorn coating, with some honey and cinnamon. The possibilities are endless with this frugal and delectable way of making popcorn. I love popcorn! I never thought of using brown paper bags to cook it in the microwave though. Thanks for the tip!

Enjoy your week!

Though I usually stay away from microwaving, your tip is very cool! Our frugal-er (is that a word?) way this year was to grow popcorn - of course, the kernels aren't uniform and the small/lightweight ones tend to blow right out of the air popper... :) I do so love the taste of it; it was 'miniature indian popcorn' and so pretty!

Ellajac,
We use this method because we honestly have no room for an air popper. How cool that you have been growing your own. Blessings!

No air popper or room for one?? You can also pop it on the stove. This is how we always do it now. And it tastes so much better than the microwave kind!
To cook on the stove, use a saucepan according to the amount you want to make. If it's just for 2-4 people I use my medium pan. If I have company over I usually make my BIG pan... and it's so good, I can usually end up making another big pan!
Cover bottom of saucepan with oil of your choice. Throw in your kernels - usually enough to cover bottom as well. Turn on high and cover. Wait a few minutes and it will start popping. I usually pull the pan off the stove when popping becomes more intermittent. There you go... warm popcorn!
I find that with the oil in the pan, I don't add any butter / oil on after popping - just sprinkle with salt or seasonings.
