I read about this several weeks ago and was very unsettled by it. I am guessing the silence of environmentalists has something to do with the notion that the planet is overpopulated and new people cause a drain on resources. This silly stance is fairly frequent in liberal circles; there are even several well-known books on this topic. Very sad :o(
